The £10 Poms don’t want you either
22. April 2009
It has been reported in Australia that the original British migrants of the 1950s, the so called 10 pound poms, are not in favour of the mass immigration that first brought them to Australia’s shores all those years ago and they would rather see Aus as a closed shop to people fleeing the UK.
We think it is a little rich coming from people who only paid £10 for a new life overseas!
The estimated cost of migration now is something like £10,000 for a family of four to Australia. The Australia public in general are against immigrants from all countries.

Australia wants native English speakers to take test
15. April 2009
There is apparent moves by the Australian Government to insist that everyone must take English language test, even if you are from the Mother Country!
It will no longer be assumed that people from English speaking countries can speak good English. For instance 1/3 of children in London do not have English as a first language.
So Australia is continuing to make it harder to settle on her shores.

Australia have revealed big cutbacks in immigration
23. March 2009
Word on the street is that Australia is going to cut back even more in 2010 when it comes to immigrant numbers. They have already announced that there will be cutbacks this year, targetting many different occupations.
However they gone further to say that the cutbacks will accelerate from 2010 and Europeans will not be the favoured people anymore.
An immigration insider has said off record that there will be a big push for people from Asia rather than Europe.
So all the Brits dreaming of a life downunder might have to be content with a life on the Costa Del Hell!

Be warned - Australia is sooo expensive these days
6. March 2009
Many Brits when they head downunder consider themselves cashed up poms and have dreams of an expansive and luxurious life on a shoestring…
Well let me tell you all that this is no longer the case as it is official that Australia is more expensive than Britain, and by a long way.
Here is a comparison we did in Sainsburys and Coles - two common supermarkets which are roughly aimed at the same demographic, both taken in London and Sydney respectively. We have converted the Aussie amounts to pounds using 2.20 exchange rate (as of 6th march, xe.com)
3 bananas…
UK - 60p
Aus - £1.20
500gr Sunflower marg
UK - 1.20
Aus - 2.00
Loaf of bread
UK - 1.00
Aus - 2.20!
So there you have it, our advice is dont move to Australia unless you are retired or have at least £1m in liquid assets because the wages downunder are much lower and the cost of living is much higher, oh and you are more likely to die from the wildlife!

UK Media is so negative about the UK
22. February 2009
Dont getsucked into the UK media and their negative as hell image of the UK! The UK is a great place to live and not the chav infested over-crowded little country they make out.
Go somewhere like Canada and you’ll get the same crap thrown at you. The only difference will be that you’ll be freezing your nads off in Canada too!
So don’t believe all you read about the UK in the media - if this is your only reason for emigrating then shame on you. You need more solid reasons to move your family across the world.

Australia faces collapse - Don’t even go there!
1. February 2009
Do you really want to migrate somewhere where leaves are falling off trees in the height of summer, railway tracks are buckling, and people are retiring to their beds with deep-frozen hot-water bottles, as much of Australia swelters in its worst-ever heatwave.
Melbourne thermometers topped 43C (109.4F) on a third successive day for the first time on record, while even normally mild Tasmania suffered its second-hottest day in a row, as temperatures reached 42.2C. Two days before, Adelaide hit a staggering 45.6C. After a weekend respite, more records are expected to be broken this week.
Ministers are blaming the heat – which follows a record drought – on global warming. Experts worry that Australia, which emits more carbon dioxide per head than any nation on earth, may also be the first to implode under the impact of climate change.
So think hard about whether you want to live somewhere with such EXTREME weather. Remember in Britain we do not get such extreme weather and its much better for you.

Australia is hot
27. January 2009
Many Brits leave the UK for Australia because of the better climate. This is fair enough, after all Australia is the country of endless sunshine and warmth much of the year around where as the UK is anything but!
A word of warning about Australia’s climate.
You may think that an outdoor life will be easier downunder but you would be wrong. Many Brit expats complain that it is simply too hot to be outdoors much of the time and end up in their air conditioned indoors.
Ironically this is just like the UK except we have heating, they have cooling.

High taxes for long haul destinations
25. November 2008
Brits thinking of escaping the doom and gloom of Britain for a life downunder will have a further hurdle to clear in the way of large increases in the tax on long haul flights, supposedly to help the environment.
A typical one way fare from London to Perth could go up as much as 50% in 2009 and even 60% if you want a return ticket, which is worth having as many realise Perth is a flee ridden, hot and remote hell-hole (why do you think the British sent their prisoners there? For a holiday?).
So you should get in there soon and book those return flights before the British Govt creams more of your hard earned money.

Australia to become much harder for emmigrants
11. November 2008
Australia has announced that due to the global finance crisis that it will be slashing numbers of migrants from 2009 in a bid to protect the jobs for Aussies.
Australians will also be relieved to hear this as many of them feel their country is being swamped by migrants from all corners of the globe.
Australia has seen a massive influx of people over the last few years.

Good advice - Don’t burn your bridges with the UK
1. October 2008
Don’t burn your bridges as Oz ain’t all milk and honey.
I’ve been here a long time and I can think of a dozen places I (personally) would rather live… including Blighty.
It all depends what sort of person you are. For some folks Oz is ideal. For me it stinks.
* If you like to talk about nothing but footy, beer and cars, and practically nothing else; if you like nothing but BBqs for entertainment and social interaction, you’ll love the place. (A gross generalization for sure, but not far wrong)
* If you are fond of culture, history, diverse forms of entertainment and pastimes, proximity to Europe, you will seriously miss home.
* A lot of the social ills of the UK are also present in Oz, it’s just a bit more spreadout.
Like I said, a certain sort of Pom really likes it here, many go back, and many more stay but really miss the UK.
Oz used to be a much easier country to be poor in than the UK. That is changing very rapidly
